Pencils of a Promise
One Tuesday afternoon I received my Marie Forleo TV weekly video, she was interviewing a young man by the name of Adam Braun about his new book The Promise of a Pencil. The topic of discussion was “How to Change the World & Live your Purpose.” I was instantly intrigued. After watching the interview I immediately went on Barnesandnoble.com to put this book on hold so I could pick up that night after work. Upon opening the book there was all this praise about it from the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Senator Cory Booker, Deepak Chopra and Gary Vaynerchuk to name a few. I knew it was going to be one of those books that I wouldn’t be able to put down until I read it from cover to cover. Sure enough I was half way thru the book on day one. Adam had a dream to bring education to third world countries and it all started with a pencil and $25. For real! Through his book, he demonstrates how you go from having an idea into making it a reality. You will be asking yourself “What is my passion?” “What makes me come alive?” These are the questions we need to be asking ourselves and then bring it to the world or one single person. This book not only brought me on a journey around the world but also revealed how one person, a regular person (whatever that is) can change the world and make it a better place (cue Michael Jackson song). Adam shows that as people we have to take that burning, passionate desire that resides in us and go do it, become it. Take hold of what will bring you fulfillment and go do that every day. This is a must read for anyone wishing to feel inspired, motivated and overall good.
