Interview Christine Andrew, founder of Hello Fashion & ILY Couture
Christine Andrews of Hello Fashion Blog gives us her "Tips From The Trenches" and valuable advice for anyone trying to get their start in the industry of their dreams:
1. If you want to make it in the fashion industry, or any industry really, don't just be in it to make money. Do any job with passion because you love it and eventually you will be able to make a career out of it.
2. Success doesn't happen overnight - it takes time! If you are really passionate about a career in the fashion industry then eat, breathe, and live fashion. There's more to it than just pretty clothes, so be prepared to work hard. For blogging, I knew it wasn't going to happen overnight. If stuck with it and was consistent in posting even when it felt like it was a slow start. Hard work really means hard work. I saw this quote on Pinterest a couple years ago: "Work while they sleep, learn while they party, save while they spend, live like they dream." It always really stuck with me. If you want to achieve big dreams and goals it doesn't come without sacrifice in the beginning.
3. Be on time! Whether it's for interviews, deadlines, projects, or whatever else, being punctual shows people you are dependable and that you take your job seriously. Any job in fashion is still a job so treat it that way!
4. Be creative. I always wanted to do something in fashion but after a few dead-ends (and a rejection letter from FIDM ;) I decided to find my own outlet to share my creativity and love of fashion. There's not always an obvious career but that doesn't mean there's not a place for you in the industry. Pay attention to what is missing in the industry and what you can offer and create your own space in the fashion world if you have to!
